Current and past research projets

Jelten Baguet (Ronse, 1991) studied history at the University of Ghent (UGent), where he graduated in June of 2013 with a MA dissertation on the interactions between political and economic stakeholders within the Imperial Ostend Company (1722-1731). Since October of 2013, he has worked as a doctoral researcher at the Centre for Historical Research into Urban Transformation Processes (HOST), where he is preparing a PhD on the urban elites in sixteenth-century Ghent, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Frederik Buylaert (VUB) and the co-supervision of Prof. Dr. Anne-Laure Van Bruaene (UGent). He is focussing on the impact of the institutional, economical and religious transformations of the sixteenth century on urban elites, as well as on the interactions of these urban elites with the urban corporations, the Habsburg government and rural elites.
